Where to Spend 4th of July in Laguna Beach
If you caught the 4th of July drone display in Laguna Beach last year, you probably left feeling a little... underwhelmed. We love innovation as much as the next town, but after decades of fireworks lighting up the sky over Main Beach, the quieter, slower-moving drones just didn’t have the same magic.
Good news — the fireworks are officially back for 2025.
Laguna Beach will return to its classic firework show this year, with the main show launching from Heisler Park at 9pm and additional displays over Emerald Bay and Three Arch Bay.
Depending on where you watch from, you might even catch all three.
Whether you're barefoot on the sand, sipping margaritas at Las Brisas, or tucked into a hidden cove with your crew, here’s everything you need to know to plan the perfect 4th of July in Laguna Beach.
Where to watch the show if you want sand in your toes:
Main Beach
This is the best beach to go to if you want to be close to the big show and also have access to a park, bathrooms, showers, restaurants, and stores. Main Beach is in the center of town and has enough places for everyone to sit comfortably. It’s also super safe because Laguna’s lifeguard headquarters is here. Perfect for a family with little ones.
Heisler Park
There are some great beaches and coves (Fisherman’s, Shaw’s) tucked along Heisler Park and there’s also tons of picnic areas with BBQ grills and tables above the beach if you want to have a full out patriotic BBQ with hot dogs and hamburgers.
(Monument Point area will be closed because this is where they launch the fireworks. Starting around 5pm everything from Myrtle Street to the Rockpile Beach stairs at Jasmine Street won’t allow any public access to allow for firework preparation.)
South Laguna
These are probably the hardest beaches to get to if you are driving because there isn’t much parking, and, you know, holiday traffic... but it’s gorgeous if you do decide to make the trek down. There are usually a lot of stairs to these beaches (West Street, Thousand Steps), with the exception of Aliso Creek Beach which has ample parking!
Top of the World
Want a bird’s-eye view without the beach crowds? Head up to Top of the World in the Temple Hills neighborhood — officially known as Alta Laguna Park. It’s one of the highest points in Laguna Beach and a favorite among locals for catching all three shows at once. From up here, you can see the main fireworks at Heisler Park, plus glimpses of Emerald Bay to the north and Three Arch Bay to the south (on a clear night, of course). Bring a blanket, some snacks, and a jacket — it gets chilly once the sun sets — and settle in on the grass or along the walking trails.
Bonus tip: If you can’t find parking at the top (it fills fast), park near Park Avenue and walk up. It’s a bit of a trek, but worth it.
Where to watch the show if you’re looking to have dinner, drinks, and dance:
HOTEL LAGUNA
Hotel Laguna is located right smack in the center of town. A 100-year-old historical building that was recently renovated, they offer two restaurants, Larsen and Fin, that offer the most fabulous views of the Pacific on a spacious patio with both lounge and table seating. Down below is the Hotel Laguna Beach Club, a clubhouse for members with private beach access.
THE DECK
Located next door to Driftwood Kitchen, The Deck is party central and is one of few restaurants in Laguna Beach — in fact, all of Orange County — that sits directly on the sand. Enjoy waves crashing as you feast on fresh seafood and creative cocktails. It’s packed every weekend in the summer, so head over early if you want a seat!
THE CLIFF
If you were any closer you’d actually be on the beach! The Cliff is a fun and mellow place to eat and have a drink, mostly outdoors. There’s usually a live band if you want to get your groove on. Just make sure to be there early if you want a table… especially on 4J!
LAS BRISAS
Located right next to Heisler Park, Las Brisas has a classy Spanish style outdoor seating area kept warm by a fire pit and heat lamps — and some of the most beautiful views in town. With the yummiest margaritas and Mexican cuisine, prepare to spend a bit of money as it’s on the more expensive side. But fun fact: It’s where I met my boyfriend! ;)
ROYAL HAWAIIAN
This restaurant is fun, tiki themed, and located extremely close to Heisler Park. With its ultra-cool tiki vibe, the Royal Hawaiian serves up a delicious polynesian and coastal menu — and also plenty of extra large, tropical drinks! There’s not a lot of patio seating, and it won’t be the BEST view since it’s right on PCH, but all you’ll have to do is look up.
SPLASHES
Located at the newly renovated Surf & Sand Resort, Splashes delivers sweeping ocean views right from your table. With a modern American‑seafood menu, it's a top choice for brunch, lunch or dinner. Bring your swimsuit and hop in the pool after!
THE ROOFTOP LOUNGE
Situated atop La Casa del Camino, this lounge comes with some of the best panoramic views in town. It’s perfect for laid-back cocktails and casual bites before heading down to Heisler Park or Main Beach. Just be strategic about where you sit—if you can nab a west-facing perch, you’ll get great glimpses of the main show at 9 p.m.
INSIDER TIPS TO KNOW:
If you plan on spending the day at the beach, we suggest getting to town early in the morning before all the parking spots are gone.
Hop on one of the city’s free trolleys. They’re fun and easier than trying to find a parking spot right next to the beach. The Coastal Route will run from 9:30-7pm and the Canyon Route will go from 8:30-7pm.
Expect there to be heavy traffic, especially in the downtown area and Laguna Canyon Road after the firework show.
Don’t drink and drive! Laguna police are out in full force on the 4th of July, so plan to call an Uber or Lyft.
Pack everything you’ll need before you get to the beach so you can just enjoy the day and have fun.
If you forget anything there are many grocery stores in town: Whole Foods, Ralphs, Trader Joe’s, Pavilions, and Gelson’s.
SOME BASIC BEACH RULES:
No alcohol. No smoking (Laguna is a smoke free city). No glass. No tents or canopies (over 6 x 6 ft). No drones. No personal fireworks. No dogs on beaches. NO BALLOONS.
REMEMBER TO BRING:
Beach umbrellas. Coolers for drinks and snacks. Lots of sunscreen. Hats and towels/blankets to sit on. A jacket in case it gets cold at night. Water to stay hydrated.
