Unconditional Rescue is All About Championing the Underdogs

Amy and Julian Mack | Unconditional Rescue | Laguna Beach Living

Unconditional Rescue is much more than your typical dog rescue; it's a movement sparked by Amy and Julian Mack, Laguna Beach residents and proud parents to four senior and special needs dogs (two of whom navigate life on wheels). Recognizing the plight of these often-overlooked pups, they're constructing an 8,000-square-foot adoption center in Laguna Canyon that promises a brighter future for every senior and “special” dog that crosses its threshold.

As a non-profit, Unconditional's mission is to rewrite the future for these furry friends, showcasing their unique qualities in a setting that radiates warmth and comfort — far from the sterile, somber atmosphere of a typical shelter that can leave dogs scared and anxious.

This new center, currently under construction, represents the Macks' dedication to ensuring that age or disability doesn't define a dog's worth.

Amy and Julian's initiative is not just about saving lives; it's about changing perceptions. By spotlighting these often-overlooked pups, Unconditional seeks to illuminate the joy and companionship they can bring to a household and reframe the outlook that these dogs can’t live a fulfilling life because of their age or disabilities. The open floor plan of the new center is intentionally designed to feel like a home, encouraging a sense of community and belonging where they can freely express their true personalities.

This innovative approach extends beyond the walls of the future adoption center. The Macks' foresight led to the creation of the specialty vet clinic, Rise Pet Health in Laguna Hills, ensuring that the medical needs of special dogs are met with the highest standards of veterinary care… also in a place that feels warm and inviting (not to mention, beautiful)!

As Unconditional Rescue forges ahead, they invite the community to play a pivotal role in their expansion through adopting, fostering, donating, or volunteering.

All adoptable dogs are currently listed on Unconditional’s website (including the following future besties):

Abel

A 2-year-old Shar Pei/Mastiff Mix who has Hypoplasia which means he’s a bit wobbly when he walks, but very energetic and not bothered by it at all!

TYSON

A 1-year-old Great Pyrenees who is a big, goofy boy (90 pounds!), who uses a dog “wheelchair” when going on long W-A-L-K-S.

BEAR

A 10-year-old Siberian Husky who is a living teddy bear found in Orange County as a stray.

YOSHI

A 8-year-old German Shepherd who has been referred to as the George Clooney of dogs, AKA: he’s VERY handsome.

Commitment shy?

If a forever-commitment is not currently in the cards becoming an "Unconditional Foster Parent" is a chance to provide a temporary home until they find their permanent family. As a foster, you'll be the bridge to their forever home, offering comfort and care during their transition. Unconditional Rescue ensures that all medical needs, supplies, and food are taken care of, so foster families can focus on what's most important: love.

be a part of the change.

Unconditional’s biggest event, Chef Masters, which took place in September, brought together 400 community members at Laguna Beach’s Festival of the Arts, successfully raising over $1 million for Unconditional by combining Laguna's finest chefs, wineries, and restaurants for a gastronomic gala under the stars.

Next year’s Chef Masters will take place on September 22nd, 2024

As Unconditional Rescue looks to the horizon, their mission remains clear: to carve out a world where every senior and special dog not only survives but thrives. For the Macks and the community they've rallied, it's not just about rescuing dogs; it's about reshaping destinies — one dog at a time.
